Army General Maxfield Saunders not having confidence that Steve Rogers
would be the proper candidate, and impatient to have a super-soldier,
ordered to have Private Clinton McIntyre, who was sentenced to death for
killing his commanding officer, injected with Dr. Erskine's formula. The formula although administered improperly was a success in that McIntyre was endued with incredible strength, but at the price of his sanity and then his life when his heart gave out. Stored in a cryonics chamber since 1940 he was discovered in a S.H.I.E.L.D. warehouse by an A.I.M. double agent. McIntyre was revived and trained with one intended purpose, kill Captain America the man he believes stole his right as America's first super solder - Protocide. |
