Origin
When working in an Israeli mental hospital, Dr. Charles Xavier became romantically involved with future ambassador Gabrielle Haller.  Unaware that Haller was pregnant, Xavier returned to the United States to found the X-Men, and Haller gave birth to a son she named David - never notifying his father. Serving in Paris as a member of the Israel diplomatic service, Gabrielle Haller's home was invaded by a team of terrorist assassins.  The tension of the moment caused the young Haller's mutant powers to manifest, which he used to incinerate the brains of the assassins.  In the act of killing the assassins, Haller made telepathic contact with his victims, experiencing their thoughts and emotions as they died.  The horror of the experience caused David to lose consciousness, his mind merged with the terrorist Jemail Karami, and fractured into many multiple-personalities which were Legion.
