| Origin | |
| An ancient
race of chaotic and warlike beings the Burning Martians were perceived as
a threat by the
Guardians
of the Universe. Opposed to eradicating an entire race, the Oans
saw potential in the Martians and genetically manipulated them to be
vulnerable to the very force which drove their chaotic impulses, fire. Suppressed of their chaotic impulses Martians then became known for their creative works, culture and dedication to justice and peace. Not knowing his races legacy, the last known surviving Martian, J'onn J'onzz sought to overcome his psychological fear of fire in order to become a more effective hero. This in turn unlocked a genetic memory of his chaotic nature and instead of a hero he became the global menace known as Fernus the Burning. |
