| Origin | |
| In an
alternate Hypertime reality, after the death of
Superman
at the hands of
Doomsday,
scientist at Project Cadmus attempted to clone the man of steel, but
without success. Detecting the aura around Superman that lends to his invulnerability and flight, they were able to produce a clone from the genetic material of project director Paul Westfield empowering it with abilities similar to Superman. After an anti-clone riot in Metropolis, Kon-El took control of the city and eventually the Earth assuming the name of a clone uprising in Krypton's past, calling himself Black Zero. Taking command of his reality, the now adult pseudo-clone captured the Challengers of the Unknown while they were traveling through Hypertime. Allied with the New God, Metron, Black Zero developed a means to travel through Hypertime "rescuing" each version of Superboy from the fate he believed would befall them because of anti-clone hysteria. |
