| Origin | ||
| Dirk Garthwaite the notorious superhuman criminal known as the Wrecker was approached by fellow prisoner Dr. Eliot Franklin with a plot to retrieve and use a Gamma Bomb he designed and built to blackmail New York City with the threat of imminent destruction. With an eye towards escaping prison and the aid of three other prisoners, Garthwaite retrieved the source of his power, a mystically enchanted crowbar. When the four prisoners grasped the crowbar, a bolt of lightening struck and transferred part of the object's power into the quartet transforming them into the Wrecking Crew. | ||
