Pre-Crisis Carved with his bare hands into the rock face of an ice-covered mountain near the North Pole, is a secret and solitary home where Superman can relax, perform scientific experiments, and temporarily escape the demands and distractions of the everyday world within his Fortress of Solitude. Post-Crisis Created by a Kryptonian computer program known as the Eradicator as a means of changing Superman into the ideal Kryptonian and eventually reforming Earth into a physical duplicate of Krypton.
