Orphaned soon after birth, Rahne Sinclair was raised by the stern minister Reverend Craig, and became a ward of the biologist, and close friend of Professor Charles Xavier, Dr. Moria MacTaggart.
When her mutation manifest at puberty, Sinclair was hunted by a mob lead by Reverend Craig, who believed the girl to be demon possessed. Mildly wounded by a gun shot fired by a member of the mob, Sinclair coincidently passed Dr. MacTaggart in wolf form, fell and reverted back to human form. Recognizing the girl, MacTaggart protected Sinclair from the mob.
Dr. MacTaggart took the girl to Professor Xavier's school in the United States, where she joined his team of young mutants, assuming the codename Wolfsbane.
