| Unaware
that she was adopted until she became and adult, Lorna
Dane eventually learned through genetic testing that her
father is Erik Lehnsherr (Magneto
I). Lorna Dane became associated with the X-Men after she was abducted by the mutant mentalist Mesmero, who was working for the cyborg known as the Machinesmith. Machinesmith's plan was to use an army of robots impersonating mutant terrorists to loot wealth. One of the robots was disguised as Magneto, who at the time was believed to be dead. Machinesmith hired Mesmero to execute his plan. Using a device similar to Cerebro Mesmero summoned mutants with latent powers to use in Machinesmith's army of Demi-Men. Dane was the first mutant compelled to Mesmero's desert hideout, where he used a genetic stimulator to activate her latent mutation. Mesmero hypnotized Dane and convinced her that the robotic Magneto was her father. After a conflict with the X-Men, Dane learned the truth and defected from the Demi-Men. Dane has maintained an occasional relationship over the years with the X-Men assuming the codename Polaris. |
