Jim Shooter, Tom DeFalco, Roger Stern, Louise Simonson & John Romita Jr. Note: Dazzler was a joint project with Marvel Comics and Casablanca Records in the mid to late 1970's intending to feature a disco superhero in comics, records and an animated feature film. The feature film was intended to feature the voice talents of actors, musicians and comedians popular in the late 1970's including: Cher, Donna Summer, KISS, Lenny & Squiggy, Robin Williams, Rodney Dangerfield and The Village People. Model and actress Bo Derek was intended to be the lead actress portraying the "Disco Queen," and was the model for John Romita Junior's final designs for Dazzler's look. Apparently due to lack of financing from Casablanca the project was canceled and revived multiple times. After Casablanca finally backed out of the project Marvel went ahead with a launch of the character marketing the title exclusively through comics shops. The first issue of Dazzler achieved sales double the average of other comics during this period.
Origin
Alison Blaire is a mutant whose superhuman powers first manifested themselves in her late adolescence. An aspiring singer, she was performing at a high-school dance when her ability to transform sound into light first surfaced. Upon graduation she set out to make a name for herself in the entertainment world using her light powers to create spectacular effects as she sang, using the stage name the Disco Dazzler. Virtually no one knew that Blaire was a mutant. Her audiences assumed that her lighting effects were created through technological means. Although Blaire had no intention of using her special powers to fight crime, time and again she found herself using them to thwart criminal activities. Moving to the Los Angeles to further her career she formed a romantic and professional relationship with Hollywood celebrity Roman Nekoboh. Nekoboh, who produced a motion picture featuring Blaire, persuading her to publicly reveal she was a mutant. The revelation backfired, stirring renewed public hostility against mutants. Blaire was virtually blacklisted in the entertainment industry, and had to perform primarily in nightclubs to continue her singing career. Blaire sought and received training in the use of her superhuman abilities from the X-Men, joining the team during some of its darkest days as the radiant Dazzler.
