Origin

Hired by millionaire Simon Stagg, Rex Mason went to Egypt in search of the Orb of Ra, reputed to have great mystic powers. Mason's intent was to use Stagg's payment to marry the millionaire's daughter, Sapphire.

Aware of Mason's feelings for his daughter, Stagg plotted to have the mercenary abandoned within the hidden dessert pyramid of Ahk-Ton by his servant, Java. Attempting an escape, Mason was exposed to the mutagenic rays of the Orb of Ra, transforming him into a being capable of converting himself into any element he could conceive.

Lesser men would have lost their minds from such a grotesque metamorphosis, but instead Mason became the adventurer Metamorpho.
