| Origin | |
| After
the genocide of the green Martian race at the hand of J'onn's brother Ma'alefa'ak
(Malefic), he wandered the Martian desserts for what may
have been centuries in a state of delusion. J'onn was teleported to Earth by Professor Erdel, who was attempting to create an interstellar communications device. Once on Earth J'onn used his shape shifting abilities to assume the identity of a murdered police detective named John Jones. J'onn has assumed many identities in his life on Earth. He has always been a protector of his adopted planet, perhaps to compensate for the death of his own race on the planet Mars. As a founding member and cornerstone of the Justice League he has fights against injustice as the Martian Manhunter.
