| Origin | |
| The illegitimate
daughter of Thanagar's Administrator of Protection and a young teenaged
girl, Shayera Thal was abandoned, nameless, to the slums of Downside, to
avoid political scandal. When the young girl lost her Downside guardian, as a result of police action, she was sent to an orphanage in the High Towers. Found and adopted by her biological grandfather, Planetary Administrator Thal Porvis, their relationship was not known to the girl until years later. As a young woman Thal became an officer in the Wingmen, Thanagar's police force. As an officer she met former Wingman, Katar Hol (Hawkman IV), who she suspected of smuggling weapons to Downside terrorists. In truth, Hol was smuggling medicine and supplies, while the man who framed him for murder a decade earlier, planetary hero, Byth Rok was the weapons smuggler. After Byth's crimes were revealed, Hol was reinstated as a Wingman. Fleeing to Earth, Byth was pursued by the two Wingmen, who were attached to a diplomatic mission to create better diplomatic relations after the events transpiring in the multi-alien Invasion. While on Earth the duo worked with the police assuming the identities of Hawkman and Hawkwoman. |
