| Normal human with Green Lantern Ring
enhanced abilities granting the wielder the ability to create forms and
devices of green energy from their imagination, transmute materials, phase
through solid objects, become invisible, fly at supersonic speeds; achieve
superhuman
strength, speed, stamina, durability, immunity to harsh environments and
an ability to communicate with all known sentient species. Note: The imprisonment within the Main Power Battery of Parallax - a yellow being composed of pure fear - created an impurity making Green Lantern Rings incapable of manipulating objects colored yellow, and the champions of the Guardians of the Universe, the Green Lanterns, susceptible to the only thing that could break their will - fear. The Power Ring is limited to a 24 hour charge and must be recharged in the Power Battery on a daily basis. |

| Origin | |
| Appearing to be no more
eventful than the birth of any Earth child, news of John Stewart's birth
reached to the stars. On the distant planet
Oa, the
Guardians of
the Universe recorded that the "Opener of Doors" had been born. When Guy Gardner, the alternate choice for Green Lantern of Space Sector 2814, was injured, the current Green Lantern, Hal Jordan, was ordered by the Guardians to train a replacement should he become incapacitated as well. Their choice was John Stewart. Stewart accepted the offer to be trained as a Green Lantern. Given a power ring and the uniform, Stewart discarded the mask, stating defiantly that he had nothing to hide. |
