In the years after World War II the Thangarian scientists and brothers Andar Nal and Andar Pul came on a research mission to Earth. Andar Pul fell in love with a woman named Naomi O'Neill who had a child they named Fel Andar. The young boy was raised on his father's native planet and trained to be a Wingman.

The adult Fel Andar returned to Earth as a spy to prepare for a Thanagarian invasion. As with his father before him, Andar fell in love with and married an Earth woman named Sharon Parker (Hawkwoman II). The couple had a son which they named Charley Parker - although his father secretly gave him the name Ch'al Andar.

When Fel Andar was called upon to imitate the son of the then absent Hawkman, the four year old Charley was placed in an orphanage for his protection and his mother was brainwashed into forgetting the child and believing she was Hawkwoman.

After the return of the true Hawkman, Fel Andar was exposed as an imposter. Andar fled to Thanagar were his loyalties were questioned and he was imprisoned as a traitor. Escaping incarceration Andar briefly returned to Earth on two occasions giving his son both means and motive for revenge as the Golden Eagle.
