The son of S.T.A.R. Labs research scientists, Olympic hopeful Victor Stone was injured by a creature from an unknown dimension.  Stone's mother was killed by the same creature and his father severally injured.  While the creature ate away at him, his half-conscious father managed to send the creature back through the dimensional portal.

Critically injured, Stone's father began the long and painful process of replacing his son's damaged body parts with cybernetic components, turning him into a Cyborg.
