Querl Dox is the descendent of L.E.G.I.O.N. founder Vril Dox II of Colu.
Dox was used by his father Braniac 1 to aid in his human disguise on 20th Century Earth. Along with members of L.E.G.I.O.N. Dox liberated his home planet by elevating his intelligence to the twelfth level, two levels higher than the Colu tyrants.
Querl Dox inherited his ancestors intelligence and the title Braniac. While on Earth at the Time Institute, he played a major role in perfecting the Time Bubble, the 30th Century's primary mode of time travel. His invention brought him into contact with the Legion of Super-Heroes which he joined as Brainiac 5.
Modern-Age
Querl Dox's post zero-hour origin is relatively the same except that he was drafted by his home planet of Colu to represent them in the Legion of Super-Heroes.
