Origin

Aquagirl I

Orphaned at birth, Tula was adopted by the royal family of Atlantis.  When she became a teenager she met and fell in love with Aqualad.  It was this relationship and subsequent adventures which earned her a place among the Teen Titans as Aquagirl.

Aquagirl II

After the destruction of San Diego when it was swallowed by the ocean, Lorena along with thousand of other survivors found to their surprise they could breath underwater.  It was later revealed that the former residents of San Diego had been genetically altered to survive the floods predicted due to global warming.

Lorena was one of the first people to leave their hiding places to return to the surface world - an act of bravery considering she could no longer breath air.  Rescued by Aquaman she was taken to the Justice League Moon Base and mentally probed by the Martian Manhunter to discover what may have happened to the city - he discovered great horrors in images of a flood but hope in images of the survivors.

Aquaman brought help from the surface world to rebuild the city now dubbed Sub Diego as well as order and leadership borne of years as a hero and the sovereign of Atlantis.  Lorena maintained a relationship with the under-sea avenger accompanying him in his missions and eventually becoming known as Aquagirl.
