Origin

Research scientist Ted Sallis working in the Florida swamps on a super-soldier serum, like the one that created Captain America, was betrayed by his wife to the terrorist organization Advanced Idea Mechanics (A.I.M.).

Suspecting betrayal Sallis destroyed his notes and injected himself with the only existing sample. The serum derived from an earlier formula Sallis created to create immunity from bio-toxins caused his body to mutate. His bodywas eaten away and replaced by the organisms of the swamp, transforming him into a mindless muck monster known as the Man-Thing.
