| Origin | |
| When
the New Gods rose from the ashes of the old, so rose an elemental force
capable of dealing death with a single touch. With the ages-old conflict between Apokolips and New Genesis flared anew, the avatar of death was compelled to Earth. Paralyzed veteran Sgt. Willie Walker subconsciously summoned the avatar, preferring oblivion to immobility. When offered its hand, instead of death Walker was once again mobile. Rising to his feet he discovered all that was left of the strange being was its dust lined armor. Donning the armor, Walker was transformed. Cosmically aware of his new mission he became the avatar of death to the New Gods, known only as the Black Racer. |
